Motor claims form

For when you have been involved in a road traffic accident.


In the event of a theft

  • Notify the police and obtain a crime reference number.
  • Notify your insurers and or Powell Commercial to complete a suitable claims form
  • If the vehicle is recovered notify Powell Commercial who will advise on your local approved repairer.
  • If the vehicle is a total loss or not recovered prepare the following documents for insurers.
  1. The Vehicle Registration Document (V5)
  2. Current MOT Certificate
  3. Details of outstanding Hire Purchase of Finance
  4. Original purchase receipt (if available)
  5. All keys to the vehicle

In the event of an Accident

  • You must stop, but do not have to involve the police unless there is bodily injuries sustained by any parties involved
  • Never accept liability, or confirm in writing that you accept responsibility for the accident: your insurers will decide this.

Obtain from each party

  • Full names and address of all driver(s)/owner(s) of the vehicles involved
  • Registration number(s) of the vehicle(s) involved
  • Details of their insurance cover including name of insurer and policy number
  • Names and addresses of all independent witnesses. Please note passengers are not deemed fully independent.
  • Make a note of distances, weather conditions, street names, road markings, and the speed and position of vehicles involved taking photographs if possible

Follow-up action

  • Complete a motor accident report forms and send it to your dedicated account executive.
  • Insurers may wish to interview the driver involved. Any arrangements will be made via Powell Commercial, who can attend the interview if required.
  • To arrange repairs during office hours contact Powell Commercial or your insurers directly. For a speedy repair it is strongly recommended an Insurer Approved Repairer used.
  • If you need to hire a vehicle please contact Powell Commercial before doing so.
  • If you would like to use your own repair garage please obtain a written estimate and forward this to Powell Commercial for insurers consideration before getting the work carried.
  • If the vehicle is not driveable please arrange for collection with your chosen garage (insurers will pay the cost of towing) Advise Powell Commercial as soon as possible to arrange for an inspection of the vehicle by insurers and subsequent authorisation of repairs.
  • When the repairs are completed your will be invoiced separately for the VAT (if applicable) and the policy excess. The garage will send a separate invoice for the balance due by insurers.

If the vehicle is deemed to be beyond economical repair, Insurers will require

  1. The Vehicle Registration Document (V5)
  2. Current MOT Certificate
  3. Details of outstanding Hire Purchase of Finance
  4. Original purchase receipt (if available)
